Thursday number one in Peru and I have some time on the internet since we were asked to stay out of the house until after 5:30 because my house mother teaches a cooking class at the house, and is only allowed to have one person staying at a time, and she has 4! HAHA so basically I am an illegal refugee/tenant. No worries though a bunch of people are leaving this weekend so I am being moved into the volunteer house where I perhaps will make some friends? Maybe? Too bad cause I do like the people I am staying with now! Anyways, today was day number 4 volunteering, and it happened to be the 'festivale de los compadres' which basically is the festival of the godfathers. Very interesting,
everyone is honored here. There are so manbrations and I was definitely woken up by fireworks (yes fireworks) at 5 t
his morning. Like WOW. There is another 'carnavale' on sunday that Fiona fom my project and I are going to attend. Basically consists of a giant water fight males vs females. Totally wearing my rain pants SUIT. Volunteering is really good, the kids are soooooo soooo cute and so funny. They just love everything. And my Spanish.. well that's another story h
SORRY ABOUT THE WEIRD SPELLING THE internet was really sketchy!!!

Amyia Chica! What fantastic pics - the minis are soooo cute!! How old are they? They look between 4 and 7. How is it to play soccer in the fields with the sheep? I laughed the whole time I was reading about the "manbrations" and the rain suit. These festivales sound like lots of fun. It's too bad you have to move lodgings, you illegal tenant, you. We look forward to more pics. Get them to take some with you in them too.

Deep down you want to start a tradition here in Calgary where the 'men' are celebrated...maybe on a weekly basis
and we could throw in the occational 'womanbration' if you're good.

ReplyDeleteAmy, those children look very sweet. How lucky you are to be able to spend time with them and how lucky they are to have someone like you teaching them English. You talk about traveing to Lima and other intesting places...just curious; what mode of transportation would you use? Enjoy those festivals!
ReplyDeleteCarla
everybody has these like hilarious spanish names for you. it's amazing.

carla, i would either be going by bus or by plane, depending on how far. if i went to the jungle or lima i would fly, otherwise take a bus!! (sometimes overnight yuck) ALSO love the spanish names hahahaha they are too funny. now that i've deciphered who everyone is :)
